Leo Barrera

Director of Operations

Leo was born in Acapulco but grew up in Cancun, Mexico, where he learned about the hospitality business from his father who started out as a bellboy in hotels before working his way up to managing and directing multiple resorts in Mexico. Before joining Hai Hospitality, Leo worked in New York at Gramercy Tavern, one of the marquee restaurants of the Union Square Hospitality Group. He credits his time there as the most influential in his professional career. Leo loves to spend time with his wife and 7-year-old daughter, and he watches a considerable amount of Anime when they’re asleep. His favorite Austin restaurant is Bufalina. If it was not possible to eat at Gramercy Tavern, Leo would chose El Bajio in Mexico City as the restaurant at which he would most like to dine in the world.
